Its rainy season and what can we do? Stay indoors and keep dry of course! But we all need to go out some time! Deciding to go out and lime on rainy days is just as hard as going to work on a Monday. But if you have to go out, where else can you go but to cosy up inside a nice, big movie theatre and watch a good rom-com with that special someone, or that action-packed adventure with the bredren! Here are some options showing and will be showing soon for you to ditch the rain and check out!

If you haven’t yet seen it, you’re missing out on one of the best comic-book adapted films to hit the big screen in recent times. After DC’s suck-salt films Suicide Squad and Batman v Superman (amongst others), DC have finally saved themselves with this solid interpretation of the female superhero story. In case you’ve been living under a box and don’t know what the story is about; it follows an Amazon Princess, Diana aka Wonder Woman, (played by Gal Gadot) who finds a new path after she rescues Steve (Chris Pine) from a plane crash. Diana learns from Steve that World War I is looming, and leaves her home to venture into the real World and kick some serious a** and restore peace, proving that Women can be the better superhero!

Now I know what you’re going to say. Another Transformers movie!! And yes – I agree. Movie sequels can be a bit overdone and repetitive at times, but I think we ought to give this one a try. At least if not for yourselves, do it for the kids. Take one for the team! Continuing the franchise with the updated cast (because Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox had much better things to do) the series continues with the story of its main bada** robot Optimus Prime (voiced by Peter Cullen) who discovers his home planet Cyberton destroyed. Optimus Prime blames himself for his planet’s demise and vows to restore life to Cyberton. He journeys to Earth where his small, human friends join his quest to find an artefact that would help rebuild the alien, robotic planet.

Spider-man: Homecoming

Release Date: 5th July 2017

Cinemas: Caribbean Cinemas (San Fernando and Trincity), Movie Towne (Port of Spain, Chaguanas, San Fernando), Digicel IMAX (Port of Spain)

Main Cast: Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Robert Downey Jr.

Genre: Action/Adventure

Rating: NR (Not Rated)

Running Time: 130 mins.

Okay. I know I’ve already recommended one bada** superhero flick, but I can’t help but endorse another as this happens to be one of my favourites. Now I must admit, I did get a little tabanca after Marvel axed the franchise with Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst (their on-screen chemistry was simply irresistible) and I was ecstatic when studios then axed the franchise with Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone (they just didn’t suit the roles). The third attempt by Marvel to breathe life into the web-slinging hero bares a much younger cast and promises some excitement. In Spider-Man: Homecoming we meet Peter Parker (Tom Holland) going about his daily routine in his double life whilst living with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei). Peter has returned home from an adventure with team Avengers (refer to Captain America: Civil War) and excited to explore his tricks as a superhero and alias Spiderman. His daily routine is soon interrupted for the worse when the villain Vulture (Michael Keaton) threatens Spiderman’s existence.

The Beguiled

Release Date: 19th July 2017

Cinemas: Caribbean Cinemas (San Fernando and Trincity), Movie Towne (Port of Spain, Chaguanas, San Fernando)

Main Cast: Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, Colin Farrell, Elle Fanning, Angourie Rice

Genre: Drama

Rating: R – Adult Situations and Sexual References

Running Time: 93 mins.

Though the first three films mentioned may be a family, rainy day getaway – parents, you may want to leave the kids by their tanty for this one! Acclaimed director Sofia Coppola (The Virgin Suicides, Lost in Translation) won the top prizes at this year’s Cannes Film Festival for this – her adaption of the 1966 Thomas Cullinan novel. The film is set during the civil war and soldier John McBurney (Colin Farrell) finds himself wounded and seeks shelter at an all girl’s Boarding school headed by Martha Fansworth (Nicole Kidman). After a turn of events, sexual tensions soon arise as the girls rival for the lone man in their presence, leading to a fatal denouement.

Dunkirk

Release Date: 26th July 2017

Cinemas: Caribbean Cinemas (San Fernando), Movie Towne (Port of Spain, Chaguanas, San Fernando), Digicel IMAX (Port of Spain)

Main Cast: Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Kenneth Branagh, Mark Rylance, Harry Styles

Genre: Action/Drama/Thriller

Rating: PG-13 for Action Sequences and War Violence

Running Time: 100 mins.

Perhaps the film I’m most excited to see in this lot – mainly because it is non-other than mastermind Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception, Interstellar) bringing his skills to the big screen once again! And in case you’ve never experienced a Christopher Nolan film (which is hardly likely) let me tell you – Nolan is the best thing since slice bread! In this, his latest offering, he tells the story of the evacuation of the Allied troops from Dunkirk as Nazi forces threaten to overrule them during World War II. And like our grandparents say: easier said than done! Keep that shot of White Oak close by as you’ll need it after. This one promises to hit you hard!
